Charles Corvino Obituary
Corvino, Charles Charles Dominic Corvino, 94, of Walnutport, formerly of Allentown, New Tripoli and Carlisle, passed away at home on Aug. 17th, 2014, with his loving family at his side. He was married to his wife, Georgia (McBride) Corvino for 71 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Phillip and Filomena Corvino, sisters , Betty Nejmeh, Mary Minar and Viola Cerulli, brothers, Richard, Joseph, Anthony and Louie. He joined the C.C.C. (Civilian Conservation Corp.) at the age of 18. He enlisted in the regular army before the draft at Carlisle Barracks, Carlisle, PA in 1940. He served with the 32nd Medical Battalion in World War II. He was in the south pacific on Tinian Island on Aug. 6th, 1945, when the Enola Gay lifted off on her way to drop the first atomic bomb on Hiroshima. When discharged from the service in 1945, he worked for the former Lehigh Valley Railroad, later Conrail for 34 years. He was a member of the American Legion Post 16, Slatington, and the V.F.W. Post 7215 of Walnutport. Charles was a member of Villas Crossing Golf Course, Tamaqua, for many years. He loved golfing. He would golf almost every day, sometimes went around the course twice in one day. He always walked, never took a cart. He loved to hunt deer, bear, etc., with his son, Charles of Slatedale. He loved being with his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and recently two great-great-grandchildren. He was of the Catholic faith. Survivors: Wife; son, Charles and wife, Elaine of Slatedale; daughter, Cindy Schaedel and husband, Doug of Allentown; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Services: There will be no services or viewing do to cremation. A graveside service will be announced at a later date. Arrangements by Kevin E. Hunsicker Funeral Home Inc., Slatedale.
