David "Kelly" MacLaughlin Obituary
MacLaughlin, David "Kelly"David "Kelly" MacLaughlin, born July 15, 1930 of Fullerton, Whitehall, PA passed away on Wednesday March 26, 2014 at Westminster Village Allentown, PA. David was the spouse of the late Betty Jane (Maddox) MacLaughlin. David was an active member of First Baptist Church, Allentown where he taught Sunday School, ushered, and sang in the choir. He was also a member of AARP, Whitehall PA. David was a graduate of Catasauqua High School, attended Long Island University, and graduated from East Stroudsburg University with his BS, and Lehigh University with his Masters. He was honorably discharged from the Marines serving during the Korean Conflict from 1951 until 1953. While at Catasauqua High School David was a member of the class of 1948, and was a three-year letterman in football, basketball and baseball. He was first-team all-Lehigh Valley League choice in basketball in 1947 and 1948. He was also an Associated Press honorable mention all-state choice in 1947. He was inducted into the Catasauqua High School Basketball Hall of Fame February 14, 2008. David played freshman basketball at Long Island University in 1949 and went on to East Stroudsburg State Teacher's College, where he was team captain and leading scorer in 1956 and 1957. He was an all-conference selection in both seasons. He was the first All Conference, First Team basketball player in school history in 1956 and 1957. He was on the Associated Press All-State team and averaged 28.7 points per game over two years, scoring 546 points as a junior and 457 points as a senior. He set the school record with 53 points in a game against Trenton in 1955. He was inducted into East Stroudsburg University's Basketball Hall of Fame October 6, 2007. He was inducted into the Lehigh Valley High School Basketball Hall of Fame in 2004. David taught History, Social Studies and World Cultures initially at Central Dauphin High School, Harrisburg for one year; then, at Emmaus High School. He taught from 1957 until retirement in 1993. During his time at Emmaus High School he was a Football and Basketball Coach. Survivors: Son Keith (Ann) MacLaughlin of Hummelstown, PA. Daughter Diane (MacLaughlin) Horoski (John) of Schnecksville, PA. Grandson Sean (Katie McKenna) MacLaughlin of Northampton MA. Granddaughter Sarah (MacLaughlin) Goodman (John Goodman) of Hummelstown, PA. Granddaughters Stephanie and Kristin Horoski of Schnecksville, PA. Brothers: Richard MacLaughlin (Eleanor) of Catasauqua PA, and Donald MacLaughlin (Pat) of Liverpool, NY and several nieces and nephews. Services: 12 noon Monday March 31, 2014 in the First Baptist Church, 1808 N. 19th Street Allentown, PA 18104. His viewing will be in the Church parlor 10:00 am until service time.
