Kerri Freidl

February 3, 2008

Frank Freidl was my father-in-law, by definition, for over 14 years. However, the truth of the matter was that I knew him longer than I had a chance to know my own father. In a very real sense then, he was my "other" father. He welcomed me into his home and subsequently into his family. He always had a kind word when he tweaked my cheek, and my young sons would roar in laughter as he would make their noses disappear with the flash of his hand. He had a huge heart, and showed it in so many ways, to all who crossed his path.

We all have suffered a huge loss, some a father, some a grandfather. My deepest regret is that my two sons (ages 6 and 9) did not get enough time to truly know their grandfather, the kind and caring man that he was. My only consolation, and the one I keep telling my sons when they ask me, is that Pop Pop is with God now. Though I know they do not completely understand this explanation now, I pray someday that they may develop a faith where this brings them some comfort.
