Gordon W. Achey
Gordon W. Achey, 86, formerly of Coopersburg, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 25, 2009, at St. Lukes Hospital, Fountain Hill. He was the husband of the late Beatrice Achey, with whom he shared almost 44 years of loving marriage. Born in Bethlehem, he was the son of the late Lester and Nellie (Shook) Achey. After serving in the Army during WWII, Gordon graduated from Penn State University and then worked in the Accounts Payable department at Bethlehem Steel Corporation. He was a 50 year member of Bethlehem Masonic Lodge #283, and was a former Worshipful Master, and a substitute representative to the Grand Lodge. Gordon was the principal of the District School of Instructional for 13 years. He was also a member of the Tall Cedars, and enjoyed golfing and bowling, but his passion was woodworking. He was a member of Bethany United Church of Christ, Bethlehem. Survivors: Daughters, Tracy J. Slack and husband Gregory of Slatington, Robyn Achey-Zarnas and husband Steve Zarnas of Slatington; sister Doris Lantz of Monmouth Beach, N.J.; granddaughter Samantha Slack. Services: Private and at the convenience of the family. Arrangements entrusted to Long Funeral Home, Bethlehem.
