Harold E. Shimer
Harold E. Shimer, age 90, of Bethlehem Twp., passed away in his home Sunday morning, surrounded by family. He was the husband of Evelyn Mae (Long) Shimer, with whom he celebrated their 65th anniversary in August of 2013. Born in Hellertown, the son of the late Howard M and Mabel I. (Pearson) Shimer. An accountant, he worked for Daniels Motor Freight, Lehigh University and was an accountant for the City of Bethlehem for 20 years. Harold was a US Army Veteran serving in the European Theater during World War II. He was member of Christ Church UCC, Bethlehem where he was involved in many organizations in the church. Harold, was also a dedicated volunteer, on the Board of the Salvation Army and served 26 years as a volunteer in St. Lukes Hospitals Educational Department. He was a graduate of Bethlehem Business College and Moravian College. He enjoyed gardening, baseball, football, and traveling. Survivors: In addition to his wife, he is also survived by his daughter, Carol E Shimer-Young and her husband James F. Young of Egg Harbor City, NJ; and their daughter Kira; son, Dennis Shimer, and his wife, Andrea (Schmidt) of Schnecksville, and their children, Joshua, and his wife, Lauren, who are the parents of Harolds first great-grandchild, McKenzie; Zachary and his wife, Sarah, and Zacharys twin brother, Cole and his fiancee, Kristina Erat. He is also survived by a sister, Grace Fenner wife of the late Lester Fenner. He was preceded in death by a brother, Ernest Shimer and his wife, Margaret. Services: Burial is private. Memorial Services will be on Saturday, March 1, 2014, at 11 a.m. in Christ Church UCC, 75 E. Market Street, Bethlehem. Arrangements are entrusted to James Funeral Home, 527 Center Street, Bethlehem.
