John Joseph Brody
John Joseph Brody, 95, formerly of Wilkes-Barre, PA, was a beloved and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He passed into eternal life on Christmas Day at home with his loving family. He lived with his daughter, Susan M.B. Cruz, granddaughter, Susan E.B. Cruz and grandson, Edward J.B. Cruz of Allentown, PA. He was predeceased by his wife, Helen C. (Choplick) Brody on Christmas Day 2007, his son, John J. Brody, Jr. in 1988, and siblings Helen Patskin, Anna Terninko and Stephen Brody. Surviving siblings are Basil Brody of Nanticoke, PA and Joseph Brody of Middlebury, CT. Born in Wilkes-Barre, June 14, 1918, he was the beloved son of the late Charles and Mary (Masick) Brody, where he was raised with his two sisters and three brothers. He graduated from Coughlin High School in 1936, attended George Washington University and graduated valedictorian of the class of 1948 from Rutgers University, receiving Specialized Training in Languages and Voice Interception at the University of Michigan in preparation for future work in military intelligence. Just prior to WWII, he worked in Washington, D.C. at the Census Bureau. Then he proudly served our country during the war, when he flew 26 missions over German territory as a translator and member of the Army Air Corps and Hells Angels Army Group. After the war, he worked for the IRS in Washington, DC, followed by 20 years as an accountant at Daleys Blue Line Transfer Company, and Mack Trucks, Kingston, PA, retiring in 1988. Mr. Brody was a devoted member, Trustee and past President of the Holy Name Society at Holy Assumption of St. Mary Byzantine Catholic Church, Wilkes-Barre. He moved to Allentown in 1988, and at his death, he was a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church, Allentown, PA. Services: A Visitation was held at J.S. Burkholder Funeral Home, Allentown, followed by Divine Liturgy at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, Allentown, PA on December 27. His interment was at Resurrection Cemetery, Wescosville, PA. www.jsburkholder.com.
