He was born and raised in Allentown, PA, and lived in Whitehall, PA since 1968. He was the son of the late Joseph F. and Frances (Sarka) Garger. Joe was the devoted husband of late Gloria (Perry) Garger. They were married 51 years at the time of her death. Joe graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1947. He was a member of the 1945 Central Catholic High School basketball team that won the PCIAA State Championship. In 1950, he joined the U.S. Army to serve his country during the Korean War. He left the service in 1952 as a corporal. He worked the next four years at Coca Cola as a deliveryman. He entered Penn State University in 1956 and graduated in 1959 with a degree in accounting. After college, he worked at Western Electric in Laureldale, PA as an accountant. In 1963, he began his career at PPL. He was a system programmer at PPL until his retirement in 1990. He enjoyed sharing stories of the changes in computer technology from the start of his career until his retirement. He spent years working with computers and still he could not master the use of a cell phone. He enjoyed watching sports, especially local high school teams, Penn State football, the N.Y. Giants and any basketball game during March Madness. In addition, his hobbies included tending his vegetable garden, going to Atlantic City, and walking. As those things became more difficult to do, he found great pleasure in hanging out with friends at the mall, diners, or Coachs garage. Survivors: He is survived by his son, Joseph P. Garger and his wife, Sherry (Martucci), of Kimberton, PA; and his daughter, Jane A. Dolin and her husband, Michael, of Whitehall, PA. He also leaves behind his treasured grandchildren, Alexandra and Catherine Garger and Jonathan and Jacob Dolin and their brother, Taray Carey. He was predeceased by his brother, Richard Garger, husband of Jean, of Allentown, PA.
