Dr. Pamela Demetrales
Dr. Pamela Demetrales of Bethlehem died Sunday, October 20, 2013, in Lehigh Valley Hospital, Bethlehem. Born in Bethlehem she was the daughter of the late Michael and Eleanor Demetrales. She was a member of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Cathedral and had been active in GOYA and the Daughters of Penelope. Dr. Demetrales graduated from Moravian College and earned her masters degree in Ed.D at Lehigh University in Education. She also completed post-graduate courses in Education at Harvard University, Cambridge, MA. Dr. Demetrales was employed as a reading supervisor and Title One Director in the Palmerton Area School District until her recent retirement. She authored manuals, Making Sense of the Research: What We Know About Effective Literacy Instruction and manuals for the PA Department of Education on Gifted Instruction. She was an active member of N.E.A., P.S.E.A., P.A.E.A. and I.R.A. Educational Organizations. Survivors: She is survived by her sisters, Dorothy Moore and Dr. Mary Becker; brothers-in-law, Dr. Frank R. Moore and Bernard P. Becker; nieces, Elissa Becker, Victoria Appel, Esq., and Amanda Mandel, Esq.; their husbands, Dr. Jesse Appel and Noam Mandel, Esq.; great-nieces and nephews, Quintin Appel, Vivian Appel, Nathaniel Mandel, and Lyla Mandel. Services: Funeral service on Friday, October 25, at 11 a.m., in St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox, 1607 West Union Blvd., Bethlehem. There will be a viewing on Thursday, from 7 to 9 p.m., with a Trisagion Service at 8 p.m. in the John F. Herron Funeral Home, 458 Center At Market Street, Bethlehem, and a viewing on Friday, from 10:30 to 11 a.m., in the cathedral.
