Ralph James Jaccodines wife, Catherine, his children, and grandchildren announce that Ralphs life of quiet dignity came to a close on January 12, 2013. Ralph was 86 years old. Ralph was a wonderful husband, father of four and grandfather of ten, a Deacon, a physicist, and a professor. His spirit shines on all who knew and love him. Ralph, formerly of 2955 Linden Court, Allentown and Marthas Vineyard, MA, died peacefully in his home at Luther Crest Retirement Community. He was the beloved husband of Catherine C. (Chiquoine) Jaccodine for over 56 years. Born in Hoboken, NJ, he was the son of the late Ralph F. and Lucille (Nardone) Jaccodine. Ralph graduated from the U. S. Naval Academy in 1948, received his masters degree in Physics from Stevens Institute of Technology, and his PhD in Physics from the University of Notre Dame. Following his studies, he joined Bell Laboratories in Allentown and eventually rose to Department Head, Material Science. While there, Ralph made significant contributions to semiconductor research and development. He helped guide the development of integrated circuit materials and processing technologies and was honored with the distinguished AT&T Patent Achievement Award for his work. Ralph then moved into academia, joining Lehigh University as Professor and Director of the Sherman Fairchild Center for Solid State Studies. He was a senior member of IEEE, the Electrochemical Society, and other technical associations. In his personal life, Ralph was a deacon and dedicated member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church. A devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather, Ralph treasured the summers he spent with his family at their home on Marthas Vineyard. His smile and sharp sense of humor will be remembered, along with his love of family and music. He will be forever missed by his family, colleagues, students, and many friends. Survivors: His spirit lives on through his beloved wife, Catherine; his children, Mary E. Jaccodine of Orinda, CA, Ralph A. Jaccodine of Cambridge, MA, Barbara Jaccodine Golz of Cohasset, MA, and Catherine Jaccodine Hovey of Brooklyn, NY; sister, Anita Kruse of Spring Lake, NJ; and 10 beloved grandchildren. Services: Funeral Mass 6 p.m., Friday at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 1040 Flexer Ave., Allentown. Visitation 5 to 6 p.m., Friday in the church, and a reception after Mass in the Family Center. Private Interment at Oak Grove Cemetery on Marthas Vineyard. Arrangements by J.S. Burkholder Funeral Home, Allentown.
