Ray Kendig Fields
Ray Kendig Fields, 80, of Glen Gardner, NJ, died Mar. 6 at St. Lukes Hospice in Saucon Valley. Born in Lebanon, Pa., he was a son of the late Paul and Lillian (Kendig) Fields. He was predeceased by his wife Lu Ann (Shirk) Fields in 1992. A graduate of Lebanon High School, he enlisted in the Air Force, then received a BA in Physics from Lebanon Valley College and a Master of Arts in Teaching in Physics from the University Of The South in Sewanee, TN, and a Teaching Supervisor Certificate from Trenton State College. Over a span of 35 years, he worked as a teacher and department chairman of Science and Mathematics at Middlesex High School (NJ), and later as an assistant principal and tennis coach. He was a supervisor of student teachers at Rider University until 2004. He coached tennis and basketball, and was a basketball official with 25 years of service with IAABO Basketball Officials. Ray had a great and enduring passion for educating and coaching, and he continued to mentor and stay in contact with many students for decades. These former students valued his counsel as well as his friendship, and he had a profound impact on many lives. He was a member of Courtside Tennis Center in Flemington, NJ, and a member of High Bridge Reformed Church. Mr. Fields was an avid archer, tennis player and enjoyed traveling and hunting. His volunteer work included driving for Meals on Wheels, assisting people getting to medical appointments and financial mentoring. Survivors: Son, Rick Fields of Bethlehem; grandson David Fields of Macungie; granddaughter Melissa Fields of Port Jefferson, NY; a brother Richard of Cleona, PA; four great-grandchildren. Services: A private funeral service for the immediate family was held; a public memorial service and celebration of his lifewill be announced shortly. A The family is being assisted by the Nicos C.
