Richard L. Perkins
Richard L. Perkins, 84, of Whitehall, formerly of Allentown, passed away on Monday, January 28, 2013 surrounded by his loving family in his home. Richard was the husband of Cecelia M. (Brennan) Perkins and they celebrated their 62nd anniversary this past September. Born in Bethlehem, Richard was the son of the late Harry and Margaret (Gorman) Perkins. Richard was a Metallurgical Inspector in Ultrasound for the former Bethlehem Steel Corporation for 39 years prior to retirement. Richard was a US Army Veteran and fought in four of the five major battles of the Korean War. He received a purple heart for his participation in the battle of the Bloody Ridge in 1951 Korea. He was a member of Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic Church where he was a past Treasurer of the Holy Name Society. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, and the American Legion Post 739 in Hokendauqua. Richard was a member of Calvary Council #528 in Allentown and a member of The Knights of Columbus Golf League for many years. Richard and a few men established and coached The East Memorial Little League. Survivors: Surviving with his wife Cecelia; is a son, Lawrence R. and his wife Susan of Lehighton; daughters, Sheila M. wife of Art Breitfeld and Sharon A. wife of David Bodek both of Allentown; sisters, Mary wife of George Lynch and Eleanor wife of Blaine Cressman both of Bethlehem and Loretta Madle of Limeport; grandchildren, Gregory and Marie Breitfeld, Amanda wife of Jeffrey Montani, Aaron P. and fiancee Rachelle Andress, Andrew Perkins, Katherine Perkins, Emily Perkins, Damien and wife Theresa Bodek, and Alexis wife of Nick Bielaski; great-granddaughgters, Angela and Gianna. Richard was predeceased by siblings, Harry, Francis, James and Marguerite Sandbrook. Services: A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, January 31, 2013 at 11 a.m. in Our Lady Help of Christians. Calling hours will be on Wednesday, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. and on Thursday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. in the ODonnell Funeral Home, 908 Hanover Avenue, Allentown.
