Beam, Robert E.Robert E. Beam, 88, of Allentown, died Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at Lehigh Center, Lower Macungie Township. He was the husband of Elsie L. (Ruppert) Beam. The couple celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary last September 4. Born in Perth Amboy, NJ, July 16, 1925, Robert was the son of the late George Edward and Elsie Edna (Henry) Beam. He faithfully and honorably served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. Robert was employed as a civil draftsman for PPL in Allentown for 46 years before retiring in 1990. He was a member of Union Evangelical Lutheran Church, Schnecksville, The Allen O. Delke American Legion Post # 16, Slatington, The Lehigh Lodge # 326, F. & A.M. Trexlertown. He was a life member of Fairview Fire Co. Allentown. Robert served three terms as South Whitehall Township Commissioner from 1976 - 1990. Survivors: In addition to his wife; daughter, Carol L. Gilbert and her husband, Jeff, of Whitehall; sons, George E. Beam and his wife, Elaine, of Slatington, Thomas R. Beam and his wife, Rose, of Orefield; brother, The Rev. Eugene Beam of Harrisburg, sister, Elsie Bobitz of Harrisburg; eleven grandchildren; four great grandchildren; predeceased by a son, David B. Beam and brothers, Harold and Franklin Beam. Services: Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 21, 2014 at Union Evangelical Lutheran Church, 5500 PA Route 873, Schnecksville with the Rev. Dennis W. Moore officiating. Family and friends may pay their respects from 9 - 10:45 a.m. Monday in the church with a Masonic service at 10:45 a.m. Monday. Interment with military honors will follow the service in the adjacent church cemetery. The Heintzelman Funeral Home, Inc., in Schnecksville is in charge of arrangements.
