Robert H. Mills
Robert H. Mills, 87, of Hanover Township, passed on at his home on Sunday, May 12, 2013. He was the beloved husband of June P. (Pfeiffer) Mills. They recently began their 60th year of marriage. Born in Evanston, Illinois, he was the son of the late Spafford and Phoebe (Huntsinger) Mills. Bob served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theatre. He was a graduate of the University of Michigan and earned his Doctorate at the University of Wisconsin. During his 27 years at Lehigh University, he served as the Associate Dean of the College of Business and Economics, Director of Graduate Programs and Chairperson of the Department of Accounting. As a member of First Presbyterian Church in Bethlehem, he served as ruling elder and as president and treasurer of the Board of Trustees. Bob delivered Meals on Wheels for 20 years. He tutored at Donegan and Spring Garden Schools. His community service included the Boards of Housing Opportunity Association, Lehigh Valley Pre-Trial Associations, Lehigh Valley Community Council, and the Northampton County Higher Education Authority. He was a member of the Bethlehem and Morning Star Rotary Clubs and was a Paul Harris Fellow. Bob was a life member of the American Accounting Association and was selected for Whos Who in America and Outstanding Educators of America. He relished reading, walking, golf, mens Bible study, duplicate bridge, and well over 30 summers at Fairview Lake in the Poconos. Survivors: In addition to his loving wife, June; he leaves behind a daughter, Peggy J. Davison, her husband, Robert Davison-Aviles, and their children, Benjamin and Abigail, of Peoria, IL; and a son, Alan R. Mills, his wife, Susan and their son, Nathan, of Hanover Township; and a brother, John S. Mills of Boulder, CO. A sister, Phoebe J. Newman, died earlier. Services: A memorial service will be held Friday, May 17, at 10 a.m., in the Sanctuary of First Presbyterian Church, 2344 Center Street, Bethlehem, 18018. A reception will immediately follow in the Church Fellowship Hall. A memory tribute may be placed at www.longfuneralhome.com.
