Thomas Shober Sr., 74, of Nesquehoning, entered into eternal rest surrounded by his loving family Tuesday, July 2, 2013, three days before his 75th birthday, in Blue Mountain Health Systems, Lehighton Campus. He was the husband of Joan (Shigo) Shober. They celebrated their 51st Wedding Anniversary on March 3rd of this year. Born in Coaldale, he was the son of the late James and Anna (Dougherty) Shober. He was employed by AT&T as an electronic technician for 18 years until retiring. Tom was a United States Air Force Veteran serving in the United States and Thule, Greenland. He was a 1956 graduate of Lansford High School. Tom was a member of the Panther Valley Board of Education for 30 years, where he was a staunch advocate for the students and taxpayers of the district. He was a lifetime member of the Lansford Amvets, the Nesquehoning Legion, and the Disabled American Veterans. He was a member of the PIAA District XI Committee for 16 years. Tom was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church and the former Sacred Heart Church. Survivors: Along with his wife; are sons, Tom Jr. and his wife Marie of Barnesville, Ted and his wife Ann of Absecon, NJ, and Joe and his wife Dee of Palmer Twp.; daughters, Teri Yurick wife of the late Paul Yurick, Jr. of Summit Hill and Pat and her husband Greg Pecha of Nesquehoning; brothers, John of Allentown and Edward and his wife Beverly of New Castle; sisters, Anne and her husband Howard Heffelfinger of Egypt, Joan Danielwicz of Maple Shade, NJ, and Verna Patuka of Center Valley; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by brothers, James and Robert; and sisters, Marion (Betty) Bonner and Margaret L Crampsie. Services: A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, July 06, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. in St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 140 W. Mill St., Nesquehoning with Rev. Francis P. Schoenauer officiating. A Military Graveside Service will be held under the direction of the Tamaqua Legion in Sky-View Memorial Park, Hometown. Call Friday, 6 to 8 p.m., and Saturday, 9 a.m. until time of services in the Church. Contributions: Donations may be made in his name to the St. Francis of Assisi Air Conditioner Fund, 15 E. Garibaldi Ave., Nesquehoning, PA 18240. The Joseph S. Blazosky Funeral Home has been entrusted with the funeral arrangements.
