William F. Boucher M.D. Obituary
Boucher, MD, William F.William F. Boucher, MD, of Allentown died July 18, 2014 in Allentown after a brief illness. He was born in Hannibal, MO, May 15, 1917 to L. James and Ruth (Butts) Boucher. Dr. Boucher moved with his family to Catasauqua, PA in 1927. He was a 1934 graduate of Catasauqua High School. Dr. Boucher graduated from Lehigh University, Bethlehem, with Honors and Special Honors in Bacteriology in 1938. He received his MD from the University of Rochester in 1943. He continued his internship there in Pathology where he helped with research in blood substitutes. William F. Boucher married Agnes (Blamer) July 21, 1945 in Niagara Falls, NY. His favorite line was, "We left Niagara Falls on our honeymoon." Returning from a general internship at St. Mark's Hospital, Salt Lake City, UT, he joined the staff of the fmr Haff Hospital, Northampton in 1946. He practiced there for 14 years and then in his private office in Northampton, PA until 1996. Dr. Boucher was a member of the Lehigh County Medical Society where he served as a trustee and president. He was a member of the Penna Medical Society, American Medical Assoc., and the Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians. Dr. Boucher served on the Board of Trustees of Northampton Community College for 23 years. As the 3rd board chairman, he was key in the colleges early academic and campus development. Dr. Boucher was a member of the fmr Northampton Rotary Club for 55 years, serving on the board of directors and as president. He also served as president and board member of the Northampton Area Chamber of Commerce. Dr. Boucher was Northampton Area School and team physician for 40 years. He also was a member of the Borough Health Board, serving as Health Officer. He served on the Executive Board of the former Lehigh Council, Boy Scouts of America, the chairman of its advancement committee, and recipient of The Silver Beaver Award. Dr. Boucher was a 70 year member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Catasauqua, later Whitehall Twp., serving on the Vestry as Sr. Warden and Chairman of the building fund of the Whitehall Parish. He then became a member of St. Paul's Anglican Church, West Allentown. He was a founder and president of the Anglican Foundation of the Lehigh Valley. A US Army Veteran of WWII, he served stateside as a Lieutenant with Medical Administrative Corps, Phila, PA. Survivors: Daughter, Nancy L. Boucher wife of Charles W. Terry of Poolesville, MD, sons, William F., Jr., MD and wife Suzanne T. of Biddeford, ME, Richard D. of Egypt, Whitehall Twp. 6 grandchildren, Jendy, Elizabeth, Richard, Sara, Emily, and Nicholas. 4 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by brothers, James H., and Roy D. Services: Memorial Services, 11:00AM Tuesday, St. Paul's Anglican Church, 25th and Livingston Streets, West Allentown, PA 18104.
