DEC 31, 1945-JAN 13, 2014 Senior Chief (Ret.) Albert W. McVay died at his home in Midland, Texas. He is a native of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He enlisted in the Navy on January 3, 1963 and reported to recruit training command San Diego, California on January 9, 1963. Upon graduation, he then reported to Naval Communication Station, HI April - September 1963; he then reported to USS Paul Revere IAPA-2481 September 1963 - December 1965. After completion, he reported to USS George Clymer IAPA-271 from December 1965 - April 1967. After that tour was complete, he went to Commander Amphibious Squadron Three from April 1967 - June 1968. From June 1968 - October 1970, he reported to CVA-34 USS Oriskany. After that, he then continued on to three other ships and a couple of tours on shore duty during 1970 - 1984. Once he had his feel of being Salty, he then reported to Naval Station Longbeach from September 1984 - October 1986 as the housing Liason Officer. He was also a Craftsmaster and Assault Boat Coxswain. Senior Chief McVay's awards include: Navy and Marine Corp Achievement Medal (1 Gold Star), Combat Action Ribbon, Navy Unit Commendation (1 Bronze Star), Meditorious Unit Commendation (3 Bronze Stars), Good Conduct Medal (4 Bronze Stars), National Defense Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon (1 Bronze Star), Vietnam Service Medal (1 Silver Star), Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm and Gold Frame, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with device. Senior Chief McVay is survived by his wife, Judy McVay of Midland, Texas; sons, AO1 (AW) Damon McVay of Jacksonville, Florida, Doug McVay of Longbeach, California, Marc Colburn of San Pedro, California, and Heath Colburn of Midland, Texas; a daughter, Heather and husband Freddie Nix of Stanton, Texas; and by grandchildren, Ashley, Bridney and Chelsey McVay, both of Longbeach, California; Bridgette, Lindsay, and Samantha McVay, all of Jacksonville, Florida; and Nathan and Jordilee Nix, both of Stanton, Texas. Visitation will be held Friday, January 17, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at Lewallen-Garcia-Pipkin Funeral Home, 2508 N. Big Spring Street, Midland, Texas. Graveside services will be held Saturday, January 18, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Serenity Memorial Gardens, 6800 S. Hwy 349 (Rankin Hwy.) Midland, Texas.
