Robert "Bob" Orwen Lynch, Sr., longtime Midland resident passed away on April 5, 2014 at 89 years old. Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 9, 2014 at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Chapel in Midland. Bob was born March 28, 1925, to Edgar Howe Lynch and Virginia Elizabeth Orwen in Guymon, Oklahoma and was raised in Amarillo, Texas and graduated from Amarillo High School in 1942. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corp on February 24, 1943 at the age of 17. After boot camp he joined the Marine Paratroopers which later disbanded along with Carlson's Raiders to form the 5th Marine Division. He was a machine gunner with the 26th Marines and was awarded the Purple Heart for shrapnel wounds received in Iwo Jima and honorably discharged on January 1, 1946. Bob graduated from Texas Christian University in 1950 with a degree in Geology. He moved from Ft. Worth to Midland in 1953 and since 1961 had been a consulting Geologist in Midland. He is survived by two sons: Robert O. Lynch, Jr. of San Antonio and Richard H. Lynch of Midland and two daughters-in-law, three grandsons, one granddaughter, one great grandson and several nieces and nephews.
