William Earl Rickey, 79, of Midland, passed away Wednesday, June 11, 2014. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, June 13, 2014, at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, June 14, 2014, at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Chapel in Midland with Rev. Bob Porterfield, officiating. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park. William was born in Shidler, Oklahoma, on September 19, 1934. Bill served in the United States Army from 1952 to September 1955 overseas in Korea. In 1953, he met and married Wynell Stephens. They have been married 61 years on May 19, 2014. He attended college after getting out of the service. He then went to work for Humble Oil in 1962 in Durango, Colorado. He moved to St. Elmo, Illinois, in 1963, and to Midland in 1970. He retired in 1986 from Exxon. The last few years, Bill had worked part time for the post office. He hauled the mail from Claydesta to the Midland air terminal three times a day. Bill was a member of the VFW, American Legion, D.A.V. and Elks Lodge. He is survived by his wife, Wynell of Midland; sons, Steve Rickey and Glen Rickey, both of Midland; grandchildren, Shaun Hollums and wife Bridgett of Houston, Texas, Stephanie and husband Jimmie Williams of Greenville, South Carolina, Elizabeth Rickey of Austin, Texas, Rachel Rickey of Denver, Colorado, and Will Rickey of Midland; great grandchildren, Christopher and Sloane Williams; sister, Madonna Smith of Amarillo, Texas; and brother, David Rickey of Phoenix, Arizona. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dee Rickey; his sister, Marjorie Griffin; and his daughter, Karen W. Rickey.
