Donald B. Haase
PORT ORANGE, FL- Donald B. Haase, age 90, passed away Saturday, October 26, 2013, at Halifax Health Hospice.
Don was born in Racine, WI, August 28, 1923, son of the late Ernest and Irene (Nee: Kauss) Haase.
On March 18, 1944, he was united in marriage to Henrietta Marie Piotrowski of Racine. As a member of the Army Air Corps in WWII, Don served as a pilot with the 386th Bomb Group and the 320th Transport Group in Europe. Released from service in summer 1946, he moved back to Racine with his bride.
In 1951, Don joined the 440th Squadron at Mitchell Air Force Base, Milwaukee, WI as part of the U.S. Air Force Reserve, serving one weekend a month, two weeks a year. Don flew F-80 Shooting Star jets and later C-119 (Flying Boxcar) cargo planes. In 1972 he joined the U.S. Air Force as Colonel and Inspector General of the Air Force Reserve. Don and Henrietta relocated to Warner Robins AFB, GA. After completing the 4-year mission with the Air Force, Don extended his service in Warner Robins, working as a civil servant with the Reserve until retirement in 1988.
Don's passion was golfing; he was a member of Cypress Head Golf Club since moving to Port Orange, FL in 1995. Don was an important and central part of many lives. He was loved and respected by all, and will be missed daily.
Survivors include his loving wife of sixty-nine years, Henrietta; his three children, three grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
A memorial service for Don was held on Wednesday, October 30, 2013, at Cypress Head Golf Club, 6231 Palm Vista Street, Port Orange, FL 32128. In lieu of flowers, memorials to
alz.org have been suggested.
