I have just learned today about Doc's passing. My brother, Chipper Cox sent this to me today. He was a very special friend to our family. My mother, Mary Cox was an educator for many years in Macon, GA. She was a contemporary of Docs and became the principal of Dudley Hughes when he left. Our family and his were friends as well. I have not seen him since 2007, when my father, Ray Cox passed away. This January 2014, my mom, Mary Cox passed away in Asheville, NC. I know they are both in the hall of fame of great educators who cared very much about their students and gave them the confidence to succeed in life. I love you Dr. Whitley and have fond memories of the time you were in our lives. Much love to all of his family! Suzie Cox Townsend

Dr.Whitley will be missed he put a smile on every child's face. DR.Whitley would come around when I lived on Buena Vista and take my baby son to church with him and my son would run ready to go DR. Whitley loved children and took up time with them. He made sure the kids was not out hanging in the streets. and right to this day my son became to be the man I asked GOD to let me see and not to let the streets beat him Dr. Whitley talked with kids about doing the right thing and getting a good education. He will be missed May God be with this family and keep them all close to each other.

Know that your father touched the lives of many people some more emphaticlay than others, but he leaves a legacy, that will remebered as very positive. He like my parents are part of a generation the likes of which this world, sadly, will never see again. He will be missed. It really doesnt get easier, as I can attest to,it just gets different. So very sorry to learn of Wallace's death. I was shocked, especially since I just talked to you Saturday. When I arrived at Goodwill today, I noticed the door to his room was shut. Later, I asked if he had been moved to another room. They told me he had passed away. Again, I'm glad for our brief conversation. He has indeed moved to another room. One reserved by Ann, where she, Wallace and Nikki now live!
