Joseph Urso and Heidy Edith Stoeckle Urso

BONITA SPRINGS, FLA Rocky J. Urso, 80, and Heidy E. Urso, 76, residents of Bonita Springs, FL, perished in a tragic car accident on December 17, 2013. Rocky was born in Riverside, Conn. on February 9, 1933, to Oscar and Carmella Chiapetta Urso. Rocky attended local primary schools and, after graduating from Greenwich High School class of 1951, went on to serve in the U.S. Air Force. Heidy was born in New York City, N.Y., on August 23, 1937, to Rudolf and Charlotte Scheibner Stoeckle. She attended local primary schools and was a graduate of Greenwich High School, class of 1955. Heidy and Rocky were married on May 4, 1957, and remained residents of Greenwich, Conn., where they raised their three children. Rocky owned The Cheese Shop, a successful gourmet cheese store in White Plains, N.Y., until 1977, when the family moved to Manchester, Vt. Rocky and Heidy obtained real estate licenses and purchased Walker Realty. In 1989, they sold the real estate business and owned the Kirkside Motor Lodge in Bennington, Vt., until 1999, when they retired to Citrus Park in Bonita Springs, Fla. Rocky was well known in the park for his colorful personality and quick wit. He worked at the park snack bar, played the ukulele, and sang with the men's choir. Heidy, a breast cancer survivor, was an accomplished quilter and active member of the women's choir, Belles of Harmony. Rocky and Heidy both enjoyed traveling and spending time with their family. Rocky and Heidy are survived by their three children: Joan Heidy Urso McGovern and her husband Robert of Malden, Mass., Tina Lynn Urso and her husband, Brian Goldstein of Seattle, Wash., and David Christopher Urso and his wife, Carol of Quechee, Vt., along with six grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE: A graveside service will be held at Putnam Cemetery in Greenwich, Conn., on Saturday, June 28, 2014, at 11 a.m. There are no visiting hours. If friends desire, memorial gifts in Rocky and Heidy's names may be made to the .
