MANSFIELD: Burke Webb, Sr., 88, of 585 Grant St. passed this life on Tuesday, October 29, 2013 in Riverside Methodist Hospital, in Columbus.
Mr. Webb was born on Saturday, November 8, 1924 to the late Mose and Viola Brown Webb, Sr. in Townley, Alabama and had lived in Mansfield the past 63 years. Burke was an Army veteran serving during World War II and the Korean Conflict. During his time in the service Burke was a paratrooper logging more than 1000 jumps some behind enemy lines. He obtained the Army rank of Corporal. Burke was a member of the American Legion Post 679.
Burke is survived by his wife Annie Mae; three daughters: Rosie Webb, Mansfield, Belinda "Elaine" Carter, Cincinnati, Bonita "Bonnie" Middlebrook, Columbus; two sons: Burke Webb, Jr., and Clarence Webb, Mansfield; 12 grandchildren including Carmen Webb whom he helped raise, 15 great-grandchildren; 3 siblings Savannah Roberts, Katie Tufts, and Robert Webb, Sr., Cleveland; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins
In addition to his parents a son Harold Harris, four sisters, and sox also preceded Burke in death.
Friends may call Sunday after 1 in the Ruth Anna Lee Williams Memorial Chapel of Williams Funeral Services where the family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. The family will also receive friends at the Mt. Calvary Baptist Church Monday one hour prior to the 11:00 AM funeral service. Minister John Bessick will officiate. Internment will be in Mansfield Memorial Park Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Joint Veteran's Council at graveside. The family will receive friends at their home daily from 3- 8:30 p.m.
