Clyde E. "Butch" Ghent Obituary
Clyde "Butch" E. Ghent

MANSFIELD: Clyde "Butch" E. Ghent, age 66, of Mansfield, passed away on Monday, December 2, 2013 at Hospice of North Central Ohio in Ashland.

Butch was born in Martins Ferry, Ohio on August 25, 1947, the son of the late Elmer Charles Ghent and Iona Juanita (Miller) Ghent-Williams.

Butch grew up in Mt. Gilead. In 1967, Butch entered the Army and served his country during the Vietnam War. After his time in the service he worked as a Corrections Officer in Mansfield at ManCI and also spent time working at ITT North Electric.

On October 30, 1982, Butch was united in marriage to Terri Lynn Eckert, she preceded him in death on January 11, 2003. A couple of years later, Butch was at the AmVets and was introduced to Glenda Kay Morrow. It didn't take long for the happy couple to realize they were soul mates. They were married on September 26, 2012. Butch and Glenda packed a lot of love and a lifetime of memories into the cherished time they had together.

Butch was a true gentleman in every sense of the word and a gentle man. He was very loving and supportive in every way. To Butch, family was of the utmost importance and he devoted his life to caring for them.

Dancing was one of Butch's favorite pastimes. Growing up, the kids remember their dad dancing with them; it was also one of the hobbies that Butch and Glenda loved to share. He would not take to the dance floor however, before he got the special kiss on the cheek from the love of his life. He also enjoyed spending time outside on the golf course and engaged in woodworking. Sunday's, in the fall, was a time reserved for cheering on his beloved Pittsburg Steelers.

He was a former member of the Gospel Baptist Church and he studied the Bible and knew it from front to back. He was also a member of the Moose Lodge in Galion and the AmVets of Mansfield.

Butch's memory will forever be cherished by his devoted wife, Glenda Kay Morrow-Ghent; his children, Shawn E. (Dixie) Ghent, Trena L. (Terry) Taylor, Abbie Ghent and Nikie Ghent all of Galion; step-children, Marsha K. Morrow of Mansfield and Dr. Jeffrey A. Morrow of Mobile, AL; sister, Liz (Fred) Brook of Bellville; grandchildren, Andrea Kelly, Miranda Kelly, Vince Bale, Cassie Stover and Ryan Stover; great grandson, Corbyn Stover; sister-in-law, Sylvia Ghent; and several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Terri Lynn Ghent; and his siblings, William Ghent, Russell Ghent, Mary Ghent, Bessie McCoy, Darlene Wyatt and Eleanor Ghent.

Visitation will be held on Friday, December 6, 2013 at the Snyder Funeral Home, Craven Chapel, 67 North Main St., Mt. Gilead from 4PM to 7PM; Funeral services will be held on Saturday at the funeral home at 11:30AM; Burial will be in the Bryn Zion Cemetery with Military Honors being observed.

If so desired, donations may be made to the Battered Womens' Shelter, (Turning Point) PO Box 875, Marion, OH or the Wounded Warrior Project.
