MANSFIELD: Dorothy J (Dottie) Almanson, 68, went home to be with her Lord Saturday, June 28, 2014, at Kobacker House in Columbus, OH after an extended illness. Dorothy was born August 11, 1945, in Yazoo City, Mississippi to the late John and Jessie Mae McNeil. She lived in Mansfield all her life.

Dorothy graduated from Mansfield High School and retired from Med Central Hospital after 42 years of services. Dorothy was a Member of Providence Missionary Baptist Church. Dorothy was a devoted mother, grandmother who enjoyed her family gatherings. Her most treasured memories were getting together on holidays and attending family functions (especially family reunions). Dorothy loved watching Tyler Perry's movies and plays. In the eighty's Dorothy was one of the founders of the Mansfield City Rockers Drill Team.

Dorothy leaves to cherish in her memory son, Jermel Almanson, of Columbus, and daughter, Traci (Kenny) Taylor, of Akron, Ohio; four grandchildren, Khristian (University of TN at Martin), Kourtni (University of Evansville, IN), Korrin (Oakland University in Michigan), Kameron Taylor, of Akron; two sisters, Joyce Pender and Karen (Walter) Mosely, both of Mansfield; two brothers, Easther (Daisy) McNeil and Eugene (Joan) McNeil, both of Mansfield; two uncles, Esther (Edna) Lewis, and Andrew (Ruth) Lewis, both of Dayton; an aunt, Ruth Newborn, of Mansfield; very special friends, Leonard, Stevie Dillion and Beverly Kimber; a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Almanson; parents, John and Jessie McNeil; one brother, Johnny C. McNeil; sister, Delores C. Sylvester; paternal grandparents, John Sr. and Carrie McNeil; maternal grandparents, Andrew and Lillie Lewis; four aunts, Ruby (Wilson) Jones, Vergie Courts-Buxton, Helen Lewis and Elizabeth Lewis; two uncles, Floyd McNeil and Otis Lewis.

The services will be held Thursday, July 3, 2014, at 11 a.m., with one hour prior calling at Providence Baptist Church, 112 West 6th St., with Dr. Thomas C. Hunt officiating. The committal services will be held at the church.

The family has entrusted Small's Funeral Services with the arrangements.
