Edward William DeWitt

PERRYSVILLE: Edward William DeWitt, 84, of Perrysville passed away Sunday October 6, 2013 in Hospice of North Central Ohio, Ashland of Congestive Heart Failure. Edward was born May 18, 1929 in Mansfield Ohio, the son of the late Herman and Mabel (McFadden) DeWitt. Edward retired from The United States Postal Service in 1986 after serving for 28 years. After retirement he was heavily involved in the family business of Fluff N Ed's Restaurant and Tavern in Perrysville. Edward served in the Air National Guard stationed at Lahm Airport, and served in the United States Army during the Korean War as an Army Medic stationed in Texas. He loved Country Music and sang it as much as he could. He performed on the Gene Carrol Show twice, American Legion Minstrel Shows, sang in bands, and his children remember him on the radio. Edward was a member of the American Legion Post 257 of Loudonville, and the VFW Post 8586, of Perrysville.

Edward is survived by his wife Gloria N. (Berentz) DeWitt, whom he married September 3, 1949, 4 sons; Marc E. DeWitt, Darin R. DeWitt, Vance (Heather) DeWitt, and Kevin (Jennifer) DeWitt, 1 daughter; Kelly (Gary) Harvey, 10 Grandchildren, 4 Step-Grandchildren, and 13 Great-Grandchildren. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by 1 brother and 1 sister.

Friends may call in LINDSEY FUNERAL HOME, LOUDONVILLE Wednesday October 9, 2013 from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM. Military Honors will be given by the American Legion and the VFW at 7:45PM. Memorial Contributions may be given to the American Legion Post 257, 131 South Water Street Loudonville, OH 44842, or the VFW Post 8586, 2802 County Road 917 Perrysville, OH 44864.
