Fred Barr Obituary
Fred Edward Barr

MANSFIELD: Fred E. Barr passed away Sunday morning, August 31, 2014 in Hospice House in Ashland. He was 77.

He was born January 2, 1937 to the late Fred Edward, Sr., & Alice J. (Ness) Barr in Mansfield. On February 11, 1961, he married Karen D. Devers and together they spent almost 50 wonderful years until she passed away in 2010. He cared dutifully for Karen through 20 years of illness; taking his wedding vows very seriously, he truly stood by her through sickness and health.

After graduating from Galion High School in 1955, Fred was proud to serve his country as a member of the US Navy during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He later worked for 32 years as a line foreman at Ohio Edison until his retirement in 1994.

He was business-minded and a hard worker, but above all he cherished his family and grandkids. Fred instilled a great work ethic in them not by instruction, but by example. In spare time, he carefully constructed an extensive train set in his basement.

Fred faithfully attended Diamond Hills Baptist Church in Mansfield.

He is survived by his children (and spouses): Robin (Peter) Wiggin, Debbie (Jim) Blankenship, and David Barr all of Mansfield; three grandchildren: Jessi Blankenship, Kelli (Brandon) Polak, and Hanna Barr; and two great-grandsons: Brandon and Preston Polak.

In addition to his wife and parents, Fred was preceded in death by two sisters: Beverly and Barbara.

The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, September 4, 2014 in the Marion Avenue Snyder Funeral Home where a funeral service will be held to honor his life 11 a.m. Friday. William J. Asher will officiate and burial will follow in Mansfield Memorial Park with military honors performed by Irvin Hiskey Post #535 of Bellville.

Contributions in his memory to Diamond Hills Baptist Church or Hospice of North Central Ohio may be made at the funeral home or sent to: Snyder Funeral Home, P.O. Box 3085, Mansfield, Ohio 44904.
