MANSFIELD: Gabriel Rauch's catch phrase was "You know it… and I know it." He finished so many conversations with these words that his family and friends began to recognize it as his signature expression. As an immigrant from Austria, Gabriel understood the value of knowledge, freedom, and hard work. Instilling these values in his family, his legacy will live on.
Gabriel Rauch passed away Monday morning, March 31, 2014 in Mansfield Memorial Homes following an extended illness. He was 90.
He was born December 20, 1923 in Graz, Austria, to the late Gabriel and Josefine Rauch. He moved to Mansfield in 1958 to work at General Motors where he worked for over 28 years as a tool and die maker. He retired in 1987.
On August 28, 1964, he married Marjorie Haston and together they celebrated nearly 50 years of marriage.
Gabriel was an avid gardener and a very innovative and creative handyman. If he didn't know how to fix something, he would work until he found some way to "rig" it into working order.
In his younger years, he enjoyed snow skiing and going to the Cleveland Browns Games. Optimistic and encouraging, Gabriel was always thinking of ways to make each day better. Somewhat ornery, he was light hearted and a bit rambunctious at times, but his family loved and respected him dearly.
He is survived by his wife Marjorie Rauch of Mansfield, four children Patricia (Ron) Hunt of Mansfield, Michael (Kathy) Perkins of Denver, Colorado, Mark (Rachelle) Haston of Omaha, Nebraska and Paula Thompson of Mansfield; grandchildren Kevin (Vickie) Perkins, Jennifer (Mark) Thompson and Michelle Thompson all of Mansfield, Sean Haston and Kyle Haston of Omaha; great grandchildren Kyle Perkins, Kayla Perkins, Braison Hawkins and Nicholas Hawkins all of Mansfield; and a sister Frieda Rauch of Graz.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister Josefine Rauch.
Friends may call Friday, April 4, 2014 from 4-6 pm in the Marion Avenue Snyder Funeral Home where the funeral service will be held Saturday at 11 am. Burial will follow in Mansfield Cemetery.
