George Rinehart

SHELBY: George Rinehart, age 85, resident of Shelby died surrounded by his family early Thursday morning, August 7, 2014, at his home following a courageous four month battle with cancer.

Born October 6, 1928 in Shelby to George W. and Vera (Russell) Rinehart he had been a Shelby-Shiloh area resident all his life. A 1947 graduate of Shiloh High School, he was a veteran of the US Army serving during the Korean Conflict. He was employed with Gorman-Rupp Co. retiring in 1988 and also farmed for many years.

George was a member of the Ganges Church of Christ, Shiloh American Legion Post #503 where he held several offices including past commander. He was a former member of the Richland County Coon Hunter's and had served as a Cass Township trustee for seven years.

An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed fishing, hunting coon, squirrel and mushrooms, tending to his garden and farming. He especially enjoyed the time spent hunting with his sons, grandsons and nephews.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce (Moon) Rinehart whom he wed April 18, 1953; four children, Pamela (Mike) Saunders of Sellersburg, Indiana, Michael (Renee) Rinehart of Shelby, Beth (Joe) La Geose of Peru, Indiana and Patrick Rinehart (Laura Rinehart) of Shelby; five grandchildren, Jason Smith, Tiffany (Jordan) Parsons, Bryan (Caitlin) Konieczka, Myles Rinehart and Haley Rinehart; five great-grandchildren, Felicia, Carter and Karley Smith, Jayda Turnpaugh and Wrigley Bruhn; brother-in-law, Tony Gwirtz of Shelby, sisters-in-law, Sara Reeder of New London and Shirley Moon of Ashland; nieces, nephews and other relatives.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three sisters, Betty Hause, Nancy Ann Rinehart and Eilla Gwirtz.

George's family would like to thank Cleveland Clinic Cancer Center, Hospice of North Central Ohio, his doctors, nurses and caregivers for the special care that was given to him during his illness.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Monday, August 11, 2014 at the Barkdull Funeral Home in Shelby. Rev. Ronald Carey will officiate with interment in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Shiloh. Friends may call at the funeral home Sunday from 1:00 to 5:00 PM. Memorial expressions may be made to the CBS Joint Fire District (Cass Twp., Bloomingrove Twp. and Shiloh), 11 N.
