Gerald "Jerry" L. Hoffer

LUCAS: Gerald "Jerry" L. Hoffer, 66, of Lucas, died Monday, June 10, 2013 at Hospice House in Ashland. Born November 15, 1946 in Richland County, he was the son of Frank and Mary (Lowrey) Hoffer. He graduated from Mansfield Senior High in 1964 and enlisted in the United States Navy in 1965 serving on the USS Enterprise during the Vietnam War. Jerry received an Admiral's Appointment to the United States Naval Academy in 1967. Upon completion of his service he returned to Mansfield to become Youth Director of the YMCA. He had also served as the maintenance director at Kingwood Center for over three years. The majority of his life he was a successful contractor and briefly served as Superintendent of Mansfield's Code and Permits. Jerry was an avid hunter and a dedicated and hard working father.

He is survived by his wife, Janet (Schampier) Hoffer whom he married February 27, 1971; two children, Jeremy and Heidi; a grandchild, Devan Dalton; his mother, Mary "Billie" Hoffer; three brothers, Joseph, James and Jeffrey Hoffer all of Mansfield; an aunt, Mildred Lowrey; and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial Mass will be said at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 15, 2013 at St. Peter's Catholic Church. Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery on Cemetery Road in Lucas, Ohio where full military honors will be conducted by Richland County Joint Veterans Burial Detail. The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Disabled American Veterans.
