Helen E. Laux

MANSFIELD: Helen E. Laux, 68, of Mansfield, was welcomed into the arms of Jesus late Tuesday evening, July 8, 2014 at OhioHealth MedCentral Mansfield Hospital. She was born February 15, 1946 in Attica, Ohio to the late Ethel and Robert Spencer.

Helen attended Attica High School, received her Bachelor degree from Kent State University and Master degree from The Ohio State University. She began her teaching career in 1967 and retired after 36 years of teaching at the elementary level with Mansfield City Schools. Helen was a dedicated, generous, kind and loving woman who showered her affection on her family and friends. She was always busy and active and enjoyed camping, traveling, helping in the family business and most especially, watching her grandchildren.

Helen was a dedicated member of Main Street United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir, distributed blankets for Love, Inc. and was faithful in each of the ministries served by the church. Her devotion to her family and church family was unparalleled.

She is survived by her husband of 47 years, John Laux of Mansfield; two daughters, Teresa Laux of Columbus and Julia Laux of Mansfield; a son, Shawn (Cathy) Laux of Mansfield; two grandchildren, Joshua and Olivia Laux; a sister, Sharon Spencer of Mount Vernon; two sisters-in-law, Luella Sue (John) Kramer of Republic and Norma Jean (Butch) Fritz of Bucyrus; a nephew, Brian (Karen) Fritz of Upper Sandusky; a niece, Carrie (Jamie) Betts of Bucyrus; and four nieces-once-removed, Bailey, Rachel, Aubrey and Leah.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, July 13, 2014 at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 S. Diamond St., Mansfield. The funeral service will be held Monday at 2:00 p.m. at Main Street United Methodist Church, 230 S. Main St., Mansfield with additional visitation beginning at 1:00 p.m.. Burial will follow in Mansfield Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Main Street United Methodist Church.
