MANSFIELD: Herbert E. Heilman, 85, of Mansfield, died Saturday, June 22, 2013 at his residence after a courageous battle with cancer.
Mr. Heilman was born in Mansfield, OH on August 10, 1927 to the late Joseph Heilman and Marie (Kramer) Zimmerman. He married Jacqualine Hodgson on July, 27, 1947 and she survives him.
Herb was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving as a Seabee during WW II in China and later during the Korea Conflict in the Aleutian Islands. He was retired from Columbia Gas after thirty years. He was a member of the Wesley Chapel United Church of Christ in Christian Union, Galion, the American Legion Post # 488, Crestline where he was a Past Commander, the Crestline VFW Post # 2920, the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 859, Crestline and the Loyal Order of Moose # 303, Galion.
Herb is survived by his two daughters Bette Heilman of Galion and Kathryn & Rick Campbell of Mansfield, two grandchildren: Toby (Melanie) Campbell of Concord, NC and Stephanie (Jude) Manuella of Mansfield, six great grandchildren: Christian, Keagan and Madalyn Campbell and Olivia, Derek and Trevor Manuella , his sister Mary Shoenfelt of Bucyrus and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his sister Eleanor Heilman, three half brothers and five half sisters.
Friends may call Tuesday June 25, 2013 from 4-8 PM at the Mark A. Schneider Funeral Home, Crestline. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, June 26 at the Mark A. Schneider Funeral Home, Crestline, with Rev. Joe Stafford officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, Crestline. Full military honors will be provided by the U. S. Navy and the Crestline/Galion Veterans organizations.
Memorial contributions may be made to North Central Ohio Hospice or the Wounded Warrior Project in care of the funeral home.
