Howard Dean Von Stein

TIRO: Howard Dean Von Stein, age 82, of Tiro, died Thursday, September 19, 2013 at The Willows at Willard.

He was born June 25, 1931 in Orange Township, Hancock County, Ohio the son of the late Albert Edward and Estella Adella (Wilch) Von Stein.

Howard was a graduate of Sycamore High School and a veteran of the Korean War serving in the United States Coast Guard. A farmer his entire life, Howard's live revolved around farming, family and church. He was a member of First Lutheran Church in Shelby where he served on the church council and sang in the choir. He served on the Board of Directors of Country Star, was a member of the Buckeye Central School Board , American Soybean Association Committee, Farm Bureau, New Washington Legion, Galion Moose Lodge and sold real estate for Fred Barr Realty in Galion.

Howard is survived by his children, Ron (Ruth) Von Stein of Shelby, Edward Von Stein of Tiro, Eric (Jodie) Von Stein of New Washington, Patricia (Geoff) Holland of West Palm Beach, FL; his grandchildren, Toby, Roy, Ceceia, Dawson, Abbie and Emily Von Stein, Grace and Claire Holland; a sister, Ruth (Frank) McClain of Sycamore; two sisters-in-law, Gladys Von Stein of Nevada and Joyce Von Stein of Shiloh; two brothers-in-law, John Freed of Jenera and LaVerne Freed of Forest.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Emma Marie Von Stein in 2009; a son, Gregory Von Stein; and brothers, Raymond and Gerald Von Stein.

Viewing will be on Tuesday, September 24, 2013 from 10-11 AM at First Lutheran Church, 33 Broadway, Shelby where funeral services will be held at 11 AM with Pastor Russel Yoak officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery in Shelby with military honors conducted by Richland County Joint Veterans Burial Detail.

The family will greet guests at the luncheon following the services at the graveside. Memorial expressions may be made to First Lutheran Church.
