James R. Barley

MANSFIELD: James R. Barley, 81, of Mansfield, died July 30, 2014. Born October 15, 1932 in Callaway, WV, he was the son of James Robert and Glenna (Buckland) Barley. James grew up in West Virginia and moved to Ohio in 1959 to work at Ingersoll-Humphreys. He later worked at the Mansfield Reformatory and lastly, at Lexington Schools as a custodian. A true prayer warrior, James loved the Lord. He was a former member of Caesarea Baptist Church and more recently was attending Cook Road Baptist Church.

James enjoyed hunting and fishing in his younger years, and was a proud veteran of the United States Army, having served in Korea. An avid sports fan, he especially enjoyed OSU Buckeyes and all the local high school teams. James was a great husband who loved his kids and grandkids very much. He enjoyed conversation and sharing stories and liked to make people laugh. He always remembered everyone's birthday. James enjoyed his many friendships, but especially the one with his special friend, Norman Kempton.

Surviving are his loving wife of almost 59 years, Verona (Taylor) Barley, who was devoted to caring for him; daughter, Debbie (Rick) Cooke of Ashland; sons, Bob (Sallie) Barley and George (Kim) Barley, both of Mansfield; grandchildren, Natalie (Jeramy) Gadd, Krystle (Adam) McClintock, Ryan McClintock, Brittany (Cody) McClintock, Chris Barley, Grace (Chris) Larsen, Ray (Jessica) Barley, Rebekah (Jim) Shambre, Danielle Barley, Elizabeth Barley, Tyler (Lindsay) Barley, Hannah Barley, and Olivia Barley; great-grandchildren, Owen, Hudson, Jaxson, Parker, Jacelynn, Ella, Lilly, Josh, Kyerstin, Kya, and Mason; sisters, Maxine (Cullen) Williams and Evelyna Knight; brothers, John Barley and Ernest "Duke" (Donna) Barley; brother-in-law, John (Libby) Dotson; sister-in-law, Carolyn (Bob) Sauder; mother-in-law, Gracie Dotson; and numerous other family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Ethel Maynor; grandson-in-law, Jason Pryor; father-in-law, George Dotson; sister-in-law, Gloria Barley; and brothers-in-law, Bill Knight and George G. Dotson.

Family and friends are invited to visit on Sunday, August 3, 2014 from 2-5 p.m. at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington Springmill Road, Ontario. Funeral services will be held Monday, August 4, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery.
