James M. Brooks

SHELBY: James M. Brooks, age 65, resident of Shelby, died Thursday, May 9, 2013 in Crestwood Care Center following a brief illness.

Born November 12, 1947 in Mansfield, Ohio to Earl and Josephine (Rock) Brooks he had been a Mansfield-Shelby area resident the majority of his life. A 1965 graduate of Mansfield Sr. High School, he served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam Era.

Jim was employed 31 years with Copperweld retiring in 2003. An avid golfer, he was a baseball and basketball fan who enjoyed casinos and traveling to the Smokey Mountains.

He is survived by his wife, Glenda (Shoup Shatzer) Brooks, whom he wed October 31, 1998 in Townsend, Tennessee; two sons, Jeff (Courtney) Brooks and children, Alexis and Carter, of Shelby; James Brooks and children, Sarah, Hailey and Isaac, of Shelby; two stepsons, Douglas (Amy) Shatzer of Tiro and Scott (Allison McNary) Shatzer of Shelby; five step grandsons, one step granddaughter, his brother, Bill "Charle" (Alma) Brooks of Shelby; brother-in-law, Kenny Bishop of Wadsworth, sisters-in-law, Linda (Dr. Roger) Mills of Ashland and Margaret Smith of Shelby; nieces, nephews and other relatives.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Earl "Tom" (Janice) Brooks and two sisters, Deloris (Bob) Hartz and Shirley Bishop.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Tuesday, May 14, 2013 at the Barkdull Funeral Home in Shelby. Chaplain James Silcox will officiate with interment in Oakland Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by the Joint Veterans Burial Detail.Friends may call at the funeral home Monday from 5:00 to 8:00 PM. Memorial expressions may be made to the and the .
