James E. "Sonny" Moyer Sr.

LEXINGTON: James E. "Sonny" Moyer, Sr., 75, of Lexington, died Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at Hospice House in Ashland following a brief illness. Born July 19, 1938 in Crestline, he was the son of Wallace M. and Rose Mary (Tridico) Moyer.

He was very proud to be a veteran of the United States Navy where he served on the USS Coral Sea. Along with his brothers, he was co-owner of Crestline Auto Wrecking. Following his retirement, Sonny worked for Wooldridge Woods and Twin Lakes Golf Courses. He was a member of the Moose Lodge and the AMVETS. Sonny enjoyed fishing, flea markets and antiquing but his greatest enjoyment was spending time with his children and grandchildren.

He is survived by three daughters, Sheila Moyer, Kelly (Dave) Adams both of Ontario and Mindy; ten grandchildren, Amber (Jason) Fry, Brie Mosley, Shelly (Adam) Fulk, Tegan Moyer, Isaac Ewing, Rodney (Brittany), Joseph, Jimmy Moyer, Charlie Moyer and Tammy Baker; great grandchildren, Lydia and Lucy Fry, Raelyn, Kendal and Paisley Fulk, Rodney III, Nevaeh and Lilly and Brayden Moyer; three brothers, Edward, Michael and Timothy Moyer; one sister, Toni; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Creta (Hardin) Moyer; a son, James Moyer, Jr.; two grandsons, AJ Ramsey, Jr. and Steven Blakely James; a brother, Frank Moyer; and a sister, Mary (Mamie) Gerster.

The family would like to thank everyone at Hospice of North Central Ohio for their excellent care of Sonny during his illness.

Graveside services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 13, 2014 at Oakland Cemetery, Shelby where military honors will be presented by the Richland County Joint Veterans Burial Detail. Friends may call from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Road, Ontario. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of North Central Ohio.
