MANSFIELD: Jesse C. Ferguson, Jr., 86, of Mansfield passed away Monday, December 10, 2012 in MedCentral Mansfield Hospital's Emergency Department following a brief illness.
Jesse was born in Bradrick, Ohio the son of Jesse C. Ferguson, Sr. and Goldie (Martin) Ferguson.
Jesse attended Huntington High School and while a teenager enlisted in the US NAVY. During WWII he served on numerous escort boats used by the US NAVY during WWII. Jesse served in Africa and Sicily.
Following his service in the NAVY, Jesse worked for numerous steel manufacturing companies in West Virginia, including West Virginia Steel. He retired from the Sears, where he worked as a truck driver.
Jesse enjoyed fishing and camping. In his younger years, he hunted small game and deer. An avid reader, Jesse enjoyed all types of books. He was also a proud member of the American Legion.
He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years Beulia Ferguson of Mansfield; son Richard (Karen) Ferguson of Monument, Colorado, and daughter Deanna (Bradley) Loescher of Mansfield; grandchildren George Mannon, Crystal (Troy) Davis, and Anthony Alonzo; great grandchildren Alexis Alonzo and Matthew and Julia Davis; brother Charles Ferguson of Garden City, Michigan.
He was preceded in death by his father, Jesse C. Ferguson, Sr.; mother Goldie Blake, stepfather Dock G. Blake, daughter Angela Mannon, brother Wendel Fletcher, and sister Christine Wyatt.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 13, 2012 at 3:30 pm in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home where the family will receive friends the hour prior, from 2:30-3:30 pm. Pastor Paul Lintern will officiate.
Calling hours will continue on Saturday from 1-2 pm in Champan's Mortuary, 2851 Third Avenue, Huntington, WV 25702, 304-523-9424. Jesse's funeral will begin at 2 pm. Burial will follow in White Chapel Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorial contributions to
be made through the funeral home.
