Louis F. Root

MANSFIELD: Louis Fate Root made his transition on July 30, 2014. Born on May 10, 1933, he was the son of John F. and Marjorie (Becker) Root of Plymouth, Ohio.

Lou was a graduate of Plymouth High School and attended Denison University. He entered the U.S. Army in 1953 and was stationed in Orleans, France. He graduated from Ashland College in 1958 with a Bachelor's Degree in Music. He taught instrumental music in Medina County at Black River High School.

He worked at the family business, Fate-Root-Heath Company in Plymouth and retired from General Motors where he worked in Cost Accounting and Data Processing.

Upon his retirement, he joined the Cleveland Orchestra Chorus and was a member for eleven years. He was a member of the First Congregational Church and sang in the church choir for many years. He also sang in the Mansfield Symphony Chorus and the Ashland Community Chorus.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Ruth Ann (Strine) Root; his daughter, LuAnne Root Wiese (Pastor Fritz Wiese) of Peachtree City, Georgia; and his son, David Fate Root (his partner, Jason Oranzo) of New York City; four grandchildren, Luke and Morgan Wiese, both of Peachtree City, Georgia and Scout and Gus Oranzo-Root of New York City.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, John B. (Jack) Root and Lawrence J. Root and his sister-in-law, Donna Applegate Root.

The Root family will receive friends 9-11:30 a.m. Monday, August 4, 2014 at the First Congregational Church where a memorial service celebrating his life will begin at 11:30 a.m. Rev. Bruce E. Haapalainen will officiate assisted by Lou's son-in-law Pastor Fritz Wiese and military honors will follow outside the church performed by the Richland County Joint Veterans Burial Detail.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First Congregational Church or to the Ashland Community Chorus and brought to the service or sent in care of the funeral home: P.O. Box 3085, Mansfield, 44904.
