MANSFIELD: Mary Anne Luce's message was: Dance to your music. Embrace the children. Root for the home team. Express your love. Walk your talk. Make today worth remembering.
A genuine mother who never gave up her love for dancing (though her body did), or her passion for teaching elementary children, Mary Anne passed away Saturday, March 29, 2014 in her Mansfield home. She was 70.
Born Mary Anne Dick December 30, 1943 in Atlanta, Georgia to Donald and Anne Fullerton (Day) Dick, she was graduated from Chillicothe High School in 1962. She earned her bachelor's degree in education from Ohio University in 1965 and took her first teaching job in Londonderry. After another year in Milan, she accepted a position in Mansfield, and taught 35 years with Mansfield City Schools. She started at the Creveling Elementary building, and also taught 3rd, 4th and 5th grade classes at both Roseland and Sherman Elementaries.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church and Ohio Teachers Association. A bit of a home-body, Mary Anne enjoyed the wildlife around her home, rooting on her Cleveland Browns and Ohio State University football Buckeyes, and the OSU Marching Band.
Mary Anne embraced the blessing of her family, they include her sons Keith E. Luce and N. Samuel Luce (fiancée Heather Rhodes) all of Mansfield; a daughter Andrea (Patrick) Schuler of Charlotte, NC; four grandchildren; a sister Helen Elaine (Michael) Catt of Columbus, brothers Donald (Karen) Dick of Clinton, MD, and Jon Allen (Janet Delay) Dick of Waverly; an uncle Trafford (Marilyn) Dick of Zanesville and nieces and nephews.
The Luce family will receive friends Wednesday, April 2, 2014 from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Finefrock Chapel of the Marion Avenue Snyder Funeral Home, where her funeral service will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. Celebrant Jerry Wilson will officiate. Burial will follow in Grandview Cemetery, Chillicothe.
Memorial contributions to the World Wildlife Fund may be made at the funeral home. Snyder Funeral Home is honored to serve the Luce family and private condolences to them may be made online at: SnyderFuneralHomes.com
