MANSFIELD: Maryellen Butler, 94, of Mansfield passed away Tuesday morning April 15, 2014 in Kingston of Ashland.

Maryellen was born April 2, 2014 in Greenville, Pennsylvania the daughter of Edward Jay and Laura Helen (Christine) Sweigard. In 1938 she was graduated from Penn High School.

On November 2, 1940 she married Gerald Butler.

Tending to her family and her home, Maryellen was a devoted wife and mother. She enjoyed making latch hook rugs, and canning home grown vegetables.

For 69 years, Maryellen was a member of the Ruth Chapter Eastern Star, and was a member of the Mansfield-Madison AARP Group. Maryellen was a faithful member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Grover Richard and Hui Suk Butler of South Charleston; daughter and son-in-law Shirley J. and F. Thomas Sweet of Mansfield; grandchildren Donna McClahanan, Kimberly Wilson, Richard Butler, Gerald Wray Sweet, Truly Sweet Moore, Always Sweet Butz, Really Sweet Rine, Very Sweet Hockensmith and Forever Sweet Hedrick; 11 great grandchildren; as well as nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Gerald Butler; siblings Edward Sweigard Jr., Helen Sweigard, Irene Weiker, Gladys Joseph, June Eichler, and James Richard Sweigard.

The family will receive friends today, Wednesday, April 16, 2014 from 4-8 p.m. in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home where Eastern Star memorial services will begin at 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 pm. The Rev. Dr. Pentti Maki will officiate and burial will follow in Mansfield Memorial Park.

Memorial contributions to Holy Trinity Endowment Fund, Hospice of North Central Ohio, or the Alzheimer's Disease Research Fund in Neurology at The Ohio State University may be made at the funeral home.
