Peggy Marie Henson Gottfried

ONTARIO: Peggy Marie Henson Gottfried, 62, of Ontario passed away Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at Hospice House in Ashland. Peg was born March 17, 1951, to the late Dr. Benjamin and Lenna Heiby Henson in Mansfield.
She graduated from Malabar High School in 1969 and received her BS in Education in 1973 and Master Degree from The Ohio State University. Peg received Reading Recovery training from Ashland University. She was retired from Mansfield City Schools where she taught at Roseland Elementary for 16 years, Sherman Elementary for 18 years and Newman Elementary for 1 year. Peg served as Secretary of the Mansfield Education Association, Secretary of the Ontario Music Club, was a life member of NEA, OEA, the Richland County Retired Teachers Association and The Ohio State Alumni Association.
Peg served as a Brownie and Girl Scout leader. She was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school, had previously served as Education Chair and was active in Rainbow Circle, as well as the Food Pantry.
She is survived by her husband of 26 years, Steven B. Gottfried and her daughter, Alicia Erin Gottfried of Mansfield. She is also survived by her brothers, Jim (Bonnie) Henson and Dick (Jan) Henson; nieces and nephews, Phil Henson, Paula Henson, Sara Henson, Mike (Jana) Henson, Jon (Jessica) Henson, Ben Henson, Andy (Eva) Henson and Chris Henson; and great-nieces and nephews, Alex (Emily) Henson, Spencer Reece, Paige Kadar, Conner and Thomas Henson, Christian Hall, Landan Henson and Jillian Henson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Dr. Thomas M. Henson and in-laws, Bob and Betty Gottfried.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday, February 20, 2014 at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Road. The funeral service will be held Friday at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial will be in Mansfield Memorial Park at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Main Street United Methodist Church Food Pantry, 230 S. Main St., Mansfield, OH 44902.
