Richard L. Adams, 81, of Mansfield, OH died November 22, 2013. Born on November 17, 1932 in Mirabile, Missouri, he was the son of John Paul and Josephine (Sturges) Adams. He was raised in Topeka, Kansas before moving to Mansfield in the early 50's. Richard was extremely active in both community and professional organizations (35 different boards or civic committees) throughout his career. He was active with the 40 Et 8 Voiture 20, a military veterans organization, as their treasurer for many years. One of his proudest achievements was his involvement with the development of North Central Technical College (now known as North Central State College). He was one of the five founders in 1958. Richard was bestowed the honor of being named a Kentucky Colonel one year at the Kentucky Derby. He was the Senior Vice President and Trust Officer for Richland Bank for 28 years, the Financial Manager for Richland Newhope for 5 years, a member of the Fifty-One Club, and a trustee for the Conard Foundation. Richard was a Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict.
Surviving are his extended family; significant other of 26 years, Barbara Huston; Barbara's family, Bill and Laura Anliker of Mansfield, Leeann Means of Ashland, Shelley Means of Mansfield, Larry and Danita Means of LaGrange, Georgia, Chelsea Means of Mansfield; daughters, Gloria (Bob) Sowers of Portland, OR; half sister, Paula (Brett) Martens of Topeka, KS; granddaughters, Amanda and Ashley Adams of Portland, OR.
There will be no calling hours or funeral. A celebration of his life will be announced at a later date.
