MANSFIELD: Richard E. Leinard, 88, of Mansfield, died Monday, July 22, 2013 at Firelands Regional Medical Center in Sandusky. Born January 5, 1925 in Mansfield, he was the son of Gerald Leinard and Margaret (Robertson) Sableski. A proud World War II veteran of the US Army 400th Armored Field Battalion, Richard was a radio operator technician at the European Theatre of Operations. After returning from war, he graduated from Ashland University where he served as editor of the college newspaper for a year. Richard worked at Mansfield Tire where he was a time study engineer. He also worked at election booths and was an advisor with Junior Achievement. In his free time, Richard enjoyed dancing with his wife with the Pandora Dance Club and being outdoors, especially camping and fishing.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Alice (Karsmizki) Leinard of Mansfield; son, Dan (Peggy) Leinard of Fredricktown; daughters, Sherry Davis of Manfield, Tanya Leinard of Cleveland, and Heidi (Bill) Garriott of Cleveland; grandchildren, Nathan (Hilary) Leinard, Kelly (Amy) Leinard, Erin Boyer, Sarah and Andy Garriott; and six great grandchildren, Weston, Miles, Peyton, Aubrey, Alaina, and Ben. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Private family services conducted by Pastor Bonnie Peltomaa will be observed. Miltary graveside services conducted by the Richland County Joint Veterans Burial Squad will be held in Lantz Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Timothy Lutheran Church or the Salvation Army. Wappner Funeral Directors is privileged to serve the family of Richard Leinard.
