MANSFIELD: Robert Louis VanDyke, 86, of Mansfield, passed away Thursday, October 17, 2013 at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus.
Robert was born July 19, 1927 in Fox Lake, Wisconsin and was the son of the late Christopher and Alta Ethal (Johnson) VanDyke. He was a veteran of WWII, serving his country in the U.S. Navy. He was a retired employee of the Richland County Highway Department. On May 30, 1953, he married Hazel R. Benear. Robert enjoyed woodworking, golfing, fishing, hunting, being around people, doing word searches, and playing cards, especially King's Corners. He was a member of AA for 25 years.
Along with his wife of over 60 years, Hazel VanDyke, Robert is survived by two children, Michelle (Douglas) Vipperman of Mansfield and Steven VanDyke of Florida; four grandchildren, Amanda, Samantha, Travis, and Noah; two great-grandchildren, Braydon and Brooklynn; and one brother, Richard (Kay) VanDyke of Maryland.
Robert was preceded in death by one grandson, Logan VanDyke; infant son and daughter; six siblings, John VanDyke, Marion Hester, Helen Witter, Katheryn VanDyke, Margaret VanDyke, and Kenny VanDyke; and his parents,
