Ronald Finnegan Obituary
Ronald J. Finnegan

CRESTLINE: Ronald J. Finnegan, 81, of Crestline, died Thursday, August 14, 2014 at his home surrounded by his family. He had been diagnosed with multiple myeloma 8 ½ years ago.

Ron was born in Shelby Settlement, Richland County on March 30, 1933 to the late John and Oliva (Stine) Finnegan. He married Barbara J. Dick on February 13, 1965 and they celebrated over 49 years together as man and wife.

Ron graduated from Shelby High School, Class of '51. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, 11th Airborne. Ron owned and operated The Car Shop in Crestline from 1977-1998. He was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Bethlehem. For many years, Ron would parachute into the church's annual Shelby Settlement Festival. He was a member of Leo W. Frye Council #2642 K of C, Crestline, V.F.W. Post 2920 Crestline, and a Life Member of the National Rifle Association.

Interested in guns, Ron was also an avid hunter. He was a pilot and had owned his own plane. He enjoyed people; when he ran The Car Shop it became a meeting place for all the locals. Ron made everyday people feel important and that they were needed. He enjoyed his country life and fed the squirrels and birds. Ron read the comics daily, followed by Fox News. Ron was fanatic about his yard and his grammar. But your grammar was even more important; it had to be correct! Ice cream, chocolate, and Circus Peanuts were important to him, right up to the end.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his six children, Tanya and Mitchell Hartings of Crestline, Shannon Finnegan of Crestline, Rhonda and Dave Gregson of Crestline, Erin Finnegan of Shelby, Molly and Jeff Belcik of Shelby, and Megan Finnegan and Madison Paul Ratliff of Dublin; and 11 grandchildren, Seth and Jennifer Hartings of Crestline, Spencer Hartings of Crestline, Max Hartings of Shelby, Emma Hartings of South Euclid, Molly b Hartings of Crestline, Callan, Jack and Rylee Gregson of Crestline, Finnegan, Bridget, and Rudy Belcik of Shelby.

The last of his family, Ron was preceded in death by his brothers, Quentin, who died fighting in the Battle of the Bulge in WWII, Hugh, Desmond, and Brendan Finnegan; and his sister, Marilyn Graham.

Friends may call Monday from 2:00-8:00 pm at the Mark A. Schneider Funeral Home, Crestline where a vigil service will be held at 7:30 pm led by Deacon Steve Keller. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 am on Tuesday, August 19, 2014 at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, Bethlehem, with Rev. Christopher Bohnsack, Celebrant.
