MANSFIELD: Sammie Lee O'Neal, 81, of Mansfield, died Wednesday, April 10, 2013 at Winchester Terrace. Born August 17, 1931 in Greenville, SC, he was the son of Luther J. and Eva (Johnson) O'Neal. Sammie was a veteran of the U.S. Army and retired from General Motors after 33 years of service. He was one of Jehovah's Witnesses and attended the Mansfield East Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses. He had many interests such as spending time with his grandchildren, playing cards, fishing, camping, and watching the Cleveland Browns.
He is survived by his children, Derek (Suzanne) O'Neal and Susan (Bradwick) Kitts, both of Mansfield and Donnie (Artrena) O'Neal of Fairlawn; grandchildren, Tylor Kitts, Brad Kitts, Jr. Ryenn Kitts, Jonte Freeman, Jadon O'Neal, and Analisa O'Neal; brothers, Luther O'Neal, Jr. and Larry O'Neal and sister-in-law, Cynthia O'Neal; sisters, Julia Scott, Janie Weaver and Anne Rice; and numerous nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mable O'Neal and sister, Ellen Brandon.
A memorial service officiated by Burt Edwards will be held Saturday, April 20, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at the Diamond St. Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 S. Diamond St., Mansfield. Friends may call prior to the service from 1:00-2:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to The World Wide Work of Jehovah's Witnesses.
