MANSFIELD: Sellers Brooks Jr., 87, of 521 Bryden Road passed away on Tuesday, August 20, 2013 at his home after an extended illness.
Mr. Brooks was born Friday, March 12, 1926 to the late Sellers and Priscilla Bradley Brooks Sr. in Andulusia, Alabama and had lived in the Mansfield community for the past 59 years. He was a member of Shiloh Full Gospel Baptist Church where he served faithfully on the Deacon Board until his health began to decline. Brooks was employed with the General Motors Plant retiring after 33 years of service.
He is survived by his wife Peggy (Samuel) Brooks; a son Rickie D. Brooks; a daughter Tracy Crawford; all of Mansfield; 2 step daughters Stephanie Samuel, Mansfield and Vivian (Jeff) Berry, Clarksville, Kentucky; a step son Bernard L Stephens, Mansfield; 25 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews; special cousin Wilbur Bradley and special niece Betty James, Mansfield.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife Lula Margaret, four sisters and three brothers.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 11:00 in Shiloh Full Gospel Baptist Church with his pastor Bishop William Morris Jr. officiating. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the funeral service. Interment will be in Mansfield Cemetery.
The family will also receive friends at his home from 4-9 pm daily until the day of the funeral services.
