The Guest Book is expired.
CHESTERVILLE: Sidney Charlene (Shaffer) Webb, age 79, of Chesterville, passed away Monday afternoon, February 17, 2014, at Morrow County Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.
Charlene was born June 13, 1934 in Johnsville, the daughter of the late Maurice and Avalee (Hershner) Shaffer. She graduated from Johnsville High School in the Class of 1952 and later attended some classes at the Ohio State University studying social work.
Charlene married Ernest B. "Ernie" Webb on May 9, 1954 in Johnsville. They shared over 55 wonderful years of marriage while raising eight children. He preceded her in death on August 7, 2009.
Charlene loved gardening and tending to her hostas. She even knew the scientific name of all of her plants. She was also an avid reader and loved shopping at her favorite Amish store, "Bent and Dent".
When it came down to it, Charlene's family meant everything to her. She showed her love with the wonderful home cooked meals she made for them. They were especially fond of her banana pudding, broccoli salad, noodles, and cornbread, among other things. She cherished the family farm she lived on for over 50 years and the memories of the birthday's and holidays celebrated there. She will always be remembered for her stubborn, opinionated nature, but at the same time being everyone's best friend. She had an answer for everything and was always there to talk to you about anything.
She will be dearly missed by her eight children, Greg (Pauline) Webb of Chesterville, Sherry Webb of Edison, Joan (Randy) Orsborn of Fredericktown, Dixie (Rick) Pryor of Edison, Phil (Mary Beth) Webb of Marengo, Julie (Jeff) Griffith of Chesterville, Shelley (Keith) Sparks of Sparta and Kerry (Rob) Ervin of Johnsville; 27 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; she is also survived by a brother, Joe Shaffer of Raleigh, NC; six sisters, Lois (Jake) Worner of Bellville, Dixie Sargent of Mansfield, Connie (Bill) Payton of Lexington, Mary Wise of Lexington, Helen (Rex) Hester of Bear Creek, NC, and Barb (Mike) Young of Mount Gilead; her uncle, Dick (Marguerite) Shaffer of Johnsville; numerous nieces and nephews, and her beloved dog of the last 14 years, 'Pepper" or "Maize".
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Kenny Shaffer; and two sisters, Betty Miller and Maxine Stump.
The Webb family will greet friends from 4 - 7 p.m. on Friday, February 21, 2014, at the Snyder Funeral Home, Craven Chapel, 67 N. Main St., Mount Gilead. Services celebrating her life will be held there at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 22, 2014, with Pastor Ben Pletcher officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery in Chesterville.
