Stewart E. "Chic" Monica

MANSFIELD: Stewart E. "Chic" Monica, 80, of Mansfield, passed away peacefully May 16, 2014 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Born June 9, 1933 in Marianna, PA, he was the son of Frank and Lillian (Beck) Monica. After graduating in 1953, Chic enlisted into the United States Army and served during the Korean War.

Chic moved to Mansfield in 1978 after having worked for General Motors in Cleveland for 18 years and later owning his first McDonalds in Willoughby, with the help of his father-in-law, Paul Cromley, and his wife Shirley by his side. Once in Mansfield, his McDonalds business grew tremendously. The local business has grown to 9 locations with over 400 employees and has received the prestigious worldwide "Golden Arch Award", which recognizes the top 1% of restaurants. Chic could have been seen making burgers and fries at the Lexington Springmill Road McDonalds well into his 70's.

A true family man, Chic coached his sons baseball teams as well as his granddaughters basketball teams. He loved sports, even having been associated with Single A baseball in his younger years. Chic played on several golf leagues and was a member of Westbrook Country Club and Lakes Country Club in Palm, Desert, CA, achieving 3 holes in one during just one golf season! He enjoyed spending the winter with his wife at their residence in Palm Desert, CA.

Chic was a kind, funny, generous man who gave his time and talents to many causes. He was very patient and was always there to give advice. His family and his business were his pride and joy. Chic was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church.
