GALION: William A. Downard, 75, of Galion, died Wednesday, April 25, 2012 at MedCentral/Mansfield Hospital after failing health for the last two years.
Born November 19, 1936 in Athens, he was the son of the late William M. and Dorothy Louise (Drake) Downard. He married Ann E. (Zeller) Downard on March 2, 1957 and she survives.
He attended Mansfield Senior High School and graduated from North Central Technical College.
Bill was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Galion and was a 4th Degree member of St. Francis Council Knights of Columbus, 1234, Galion and the St. Vincent dePaul Society. He was Vice-Chairman of General Motors Local Chapter 549 Retirees, member of Johnny Appleseed Knife Club, the Crawford County Conservation League and the Galion Owls Club. He retired from Ontario/Mansfield General Motors Fisher Body after 31 years where he worked in various departments.
In addition to his wife he is also survived by three sons and one daughter-in-law, Tim Downard of Galion, Mike Downard of Mt. Gilead and Dan and Karla Downard of Gilford, N.H.; nine grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and one brother and sister-in-law, Bob and Mary Downard of Aurora, Ill.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Donald L. and Steven A. Downard.
Friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, April 29, 2012 at Richardson-Davis Funeral Home in Galion. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 30, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Galion with Father John Miller officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Galion. A vigil service will be held at 4:30 p.m. during calling hours on Sunday with Deacon, Bill Horning officiating.
