William F. "Bill" Campbell

ASHLAND: William F. "Bill" Campbell, 83 of Ashland, passed away Friday, August 22, 2014 at Crystal Care Center in Ashland following a lengthy illness.

Bill was born in Akron, Ohio on June 15, 1931 to the late William B. and Lois A. (nee Shearer) Campbell. He had been a resident of Ashland since 1945, when the family moved here from Akron, Ohio. He was a graduate of Ashland High School, class of 1949 and had attended Ashland College.

He was employed at F.E. Myers/Pentair Co. for 39 years where he worked in the sales and pricing department retiring in 1995. He had previously worked at the Wilkins Air Force Base in Shelby, Ohio and had also had worked in the ball design department for the Eagle Rubber Company in Ashland.

Bill had attended the First Christian Church in Ashland, was a life member of the Ashland Elks Lodge # 1360 and a member of the National Rifle Association. He enjoyed many hobbies, including his electrical gadgets which he liked to tinker with and fix, He was a Hamm Radio Operator, he enjoyed hunting and fishing, photography, family cookouts, going to flea markets and auctions to collect toy and miniature sewing machines and if they didn't work quite right he could fix those machines and the normal size sewing machines, and he loved spending time with his dogs.

Bill married the love of his life, Melva E. Reece on February 17, 1950 and they celebrated 64 wonderful years of marriage this year.

He is survived by his loving wife, Melva Campbell of Ashland; five children: Cathleen Campbell of Norwalk, OH, Jill Van Dyne of Crestline, OH, Keith (Diane) Campbell of Ashland, Kevin Campbell of Daytona Beach, FL and Susan E. Martin of Ashland; 14 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren; one brother, Richard (Mary) Campbell of Ashland: one sister, Barbara (Jack) Detrow of Ashland; a daughter-in-law, Karen Campbell of Ashland; a sister-in-law, Darla Campbell of Akron, OH.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, William Lee Campbell; a brother, James Campbell; and a son-in-law, David L. Van Dyne.

The Campbell family will receive friends on Wednesday evening, August 27, 2014 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Denbow-Primm-Kemery Funeral Home. Graveside Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 28, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the Ashland Cemetery. For those attending the service, please come to the Denbow-Primm-Kemery Funeral Home by 10:30 Thursday morning to join the procession to the cemetery.
